India celebrates Bombay Jayashree’s Oscar Nomination

TNI Bureau: While not a single Indian film has been nominated for the Oscar this year, India is feeling proud for Chennai-based Carnatic music vocalist Bombay Jayashree for her song “Pi’s Lullaby” for the film “Life of Pi”, which got total 11 nods at the 85th Academy Awards nominations.

“Pi’s Lullaby” has been written, composed by Jayashree. Even she has lent her voice for the song for the Canadian composer Mychael Danna. The Indian talent’s song has been nominated in the best music original song category.

“Life of Pi” is an adventure drama, which narrates the journey of an Indian brave boy, who alone faces Bengal tiger on a ship. Both the boy and tiger were the lone survivors in the storm on the ship. It has been shot in India. The story is the adaptation of Canadian author Yann Martel’s Man Booker Prize-winning novel.

Jayashree is one of the leading female playback singers in South film industry. She takes the credit for working with composers like Harris Jayaraj, Ilayaraja, AR Rahman and others. She has also sung some Hindi songs like ‘Zara zara’ in “Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein” and ‘Chahoon bhi toh’ in “Force”.

Wishes and congratulations were poured in favour of her from the B’ Town celebs. The celebrities expressed their happiness via Twitter for the grand achievement of Jayashree.

Music maestro AR Rahman tweeted, “Congrats to Bombay Jayashree… First ever Academy Award nomination for a Tamil song”.

Shabana Azmi wrote: “Congratulations to Bombay Jayashree for her Oscar nomination. She did the playback for a song in ‘Morning Raga’ and I love her voice”.

Female playback singer Shreya Ghoshal tweeted: “Oscar 2013: Bombay Jayashree gets Oscar nomination for ‘Life of Pi’ song!! Hearty Congrats!!!”
