Causes of Nausea and Chest Pain while Jogging

TNI Bureau: Jogging is an activity that involves repetitive stress and force, sometimes for a long duration. There are many people who experience chest pain and nausea while jogging. There are various causes linked to such problems. On several occasions, a jogger may also feel chest anxiety and difficulty in breathing along with the chest pain and nausea.

Chest Pain while Jogging

Chest pain while jogging can happen from acid reflux, lung diseases, anxiety, stress, anemia etc. While nominal chest pain developed during jogging can be harmless, some sharp and distinct pains and chest discomfort can be signs of life threatening diseases like angina, heart attack, diabetes etc.

To avoid chest pain while running, it is important to run early in the morning when it’s cooler and when the air is filled with fewer pollutants.

Nausea while Jogging

There are different reasons of nausea while jogging. If a jogger eats less an hour before the run, nausea happens. The jogger also feels nauseous if he/she is dehydrated, as it is an early symptom of Nausea. To avoid this problem, it is very important to take light snack about 90 minutes before the jogging. During long workouts or jogging, the fluid intake should include a sports drink, fresh juice or any healthy drink.

The other common cause of Nausea is running too hard without warming up the body. It is very essential to warm-up before starting the jogging, to avoid nausea. Jogging puts the body under metabolic stress. The higher the intensity, or the longer the duration, the more stress and the more likely the jogger are to feel nauseous as the  system is overwhelmed by the demands placed on it.

Other than this, the right breathing technique is a big problem especially for jogging beginners. Most run out of breath after short distances; the lungs seem to burst, the chest hurts. Some of these problems can also be serious. Get immediate medical care if the chest pain stays for long, or you have crushing pain or pressure in the chest, or chest pain along with nausea, sweating, dizziness or shortness of breath.
