ICC Women’s World Cup: India beat West Indies

TNI Bureau: India started their Women’s World Cup campaign on a strong note with a comprehensive 105-run victory over the West Indies in the opening match in Mumbai today.

West Indies won the toss and elected to field first. However, Indian women crushed their bowling attack with a score of 284/6 in 50 overs. Thirush Kamini scored 100, while Poonam Raut made 72. The duo added 175 runs for the first wicket. Jhulan Goswami and Harmanpreet Kaur contributed 36 runs each. For West Indies, Deandra Dottin took three wickets.

Chasing a victory target of 285, West Indies women failed miserably and bowled out for 179 in 44.3 overs. Deandra Dottin scored 39. Shanel Daley made 28. For India, Nagarin Niranjana took three wickets, while Jhulan Goswami and Gouher Sultana took two wickets each. Thirush Kamini was declared ‘Woman of the Match’.
