The National Investigating Agency (NIA) has come up with some startling revelations in connection with the Sukma naxal attack on May 25. A newspaper, quoting the NIA officials, has revealed that at least four Congress leaders were in touch with the naxals on that fateful day. Two of them were in the convoy, which was attacked at Darbha Ghati near Sukma.

According to the reports, the Congress leaders provided minute-by-minute information to the Naxalites. Even the naxals were informed about the change in route at the last minute, which made the attack a full success. The details emerged after the NIA officials verified the call records of some leaders. The Maoists reportedly got a “running commentary”, which made their tasks much easier.

Roles of former Chhattisgarh CM Ajit Jogi and local Congress MLA Kawasi Lakma, have been under the scanner. Jogi left by a helicopter after the ‘Parivartan Yatra’ rally on May 25. Kawasi Lakma, who was part of the convoy, was surprisingly spared by the Maoists, while others were killed without any mercy. He suffered some injuries and is being treated at a hospital.

Over 500 Maoists had attacked the Congress convoy, killing 30 people, including Salwa Judum founder Mahendra Karma, Chhattisgarh PCC President Nand Kumar Patel and former MLA Uday Mudliyar. Veteran leader Vidya Charan Shukla and 35 others were injured in the attack. The naxals have already claimed responsibility for the bloodbath.
