All Six Accused in Delhi Gang-rape case Nabbed

TNI Bureau: All six accused in Delhi gang rape case have been nabbed by the police. The Sixth accused was arrested on Friday from Aurangabad district in Bihar by a joint team of Bihar and Delhi Police. Other five were already nabbed by the police.

Addressing the media in a joint press conference with the Delhi Police Commissioner, Home Secretary R K Singh said that the police will seek life sentence for the perpetrators of the gang rape of the 23 year old paramedic in a moving bus last Sunday.

Mr. Singh said, the police have intensified action against buses with tinted glasses and the vehicles found with tinted glasses will be impounded. “The staff of buses, autos and taxies will be verified and strict action will be taken to curb drunken driving and other illegal activities. The transport department has also been directed to put more buses on duty during night to ferry commuters,” he added.

Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar said, the charges amounting to attempt to murder under IPC 307 have been added to the charge-sheet against the accused in the gang rape case. “The Delhi Police has cracked the case in record time and collected important evidence for pressing the charges,” he added.

Meanwhile, the condition of the victim continues to be critical even though she has been taken off the ventilator at the Safdarjung hospital in New Delhi. Briefing to the media on the latest medical update on the health of the victim, the doctors attending on her said, early signs of recovery are evident in the periodic evaluation of her health reports. The doctors also made a public appeal, to avoid protests outside the Safdarjung hospital to prevent inconvenience to patients.

However, protests continued in various parts of the country over the incident. In Delhi, a large number of women activists and students protested outside the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Safdarjung Hospital and also at India Gate and Jantar Mantar to express their pain and anger over the incident and   demanded stringent punishment to the rapists.

In fine, the demand to set up fast-track courts and grant exemplary punishment to the perpetrators of such heinous crimes is mounting day by day.
