TNI Bureau: Thanks to Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Rabi Narayan Nanda, the block grant teachers in Odisha will get ‘Grant In Aid’ from 2013-14 financial year. The draft in this regard will be tabled in the Cabinet in February 2013. Mr. Nanda announced this decision in the Odisha Assembly yesterday.
In the first phase, teachers who have getting the block grant for the last eight years, will be brought into the direct grant in aid ambit.

Earlier, the Odisha government had decided to give the grant to these teachers on the basis of matric results in their schools. However, that was opposed by the teachers. Their agitation had turned violent on November 29 and many teachers were lathicharged outside the Assembly.
Meanwhile, the Block Grant Teachers have called off their strike after Mr. Rabi Nanda announced this decision.
