Foreign Tourists targeted in India

Are foreign tourists safe in India? In less than two weeks, many safety concerns about female foreign tourists have come to notice. A few days after a Swiss tourist was gang-raped in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh, another shocker wad reported from Agra, the city of Taj Mahal.

Sachin Chauhan, a hotel manager, tried to molest a UK national inside the hotel room, but the lady saved herself by leaping from her third-floor window. She sustained serious injuries on her legs due to the fall. Sachin reportedly offered her a massage, but did not leave the room even if she refused the offer. The accused was arrested by the police.

Earlier, in Madhya Pradesh, a Swiss cyclist was gang-raped by six people while she was moving along with her husband. The goons also attacked her husband and robbed them off their belongings. The Madhya Pradesh arrested all six accused and recovered the laptop and mobile phone of the Swiss woman.

The latest incidents have sent shockwaves across the country and brought disrepute to the nation, while jeopardising the growth of tourism sector. It’s high time the government takes necessary steps to provide adequate security to the foreign tourists as well as the domestic tourists.
