Govt blocks 250 websites for spreading Rumours

TNI Bureau: The government on Monday blocked 250 websites for uploading doctored videos and pictures that created panic and triggered exodus of northeast people from major cities.

Earlier on Sunday, 80 more internet pages and user accounts on social networking sites including Facebook, Google, and Twitter were blocked to avoid the rumours that fuelled panic amongst the northeast people following the Assam violence.

It is believed that Pakistan is behind the rumour spreading in India that northeast people were fleeting major cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune fearing attacks.

Even Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has talked to his Pakistani counterpart Rehman Malik over the issue of exodus that how the elements in Pakistan used social media to create panic amongst northeast people.

However, Pakistan rejected the allegations and sought evidence. Shinde said on Monday that India will provide proof to Pakistan very soon.
