Mahatma Gandhi’s Blood Samples to be Auctioned

Mahatma Gandhi’s blood samples are to be auctioned today in London. Two microscope slides, bearing his blood, those were obtained from Mumbai, when the great leader was recovering from an appendectomy, are to go on sale by Mullock’s auctioneers in London, UK. Perhaps, then Gandhi had donated the blood to the family, he was staying with at the time.

As per the auctioner, the precious stuff, which is revered by all Indians and worshipers of the legendary freedom fighter across the world, is expected to fetch an amount between 10,000 pounds and 15,000 pounds.

Last year the same auctioner had sold soil samples and blades of bloody grass purportedly collected from the spot where Gandhi was assassinated in 1948, for 10,000 pounds. Following this auction, demand for Gandhi memorabilia has been steadily growing.

Mullocks have other precious stuff related to Gandhi, including a pair of worn out sandals of the great soul, a copy of a will, a shawl, woven by Gandhi, recordings of his speeches and a bed linen. All these items are also will be on auction today.

The Mullocks said in a statement about the auction that, “the most important historical documents and ephemera sale we have ever staged takes place on May 21st”.
