Despite strong anti-rape law, several horrific assaults are reported in past few months. Recently, a college girl in Uttar Pradesh was allegedly raped and set on fire. She is now battling for life in hospital with over 80 per cent burns.
The gruesome incident happened on Tuesday evening on July 9in Etawah, home district of Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. Police said that the girl was allegedly raped by a man whom she knew. The accused had invited her to his home where he raped her. When the girl resisted, he allegedly set her on fire after pouring kerosene on her.
The victim was taken to the village hospital. Later, she was shifted to a hospital in Saifai for treatment. A case has been registered against the man and his relatives. However, no arrests have been made. The victim’s relatives said that the man was reportedly her boyfriend.
