TNI Bureau: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi finally addressed over a thousand of students at Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) amidst protests against him outside the college on Wednesday. He  focused on the youth power, which represents new age power not the new age voters.

Addressing over 1800 students at the auditorium of the SRCC, Modi said that India needs development to show its power to other developed nations.

His vibrant speech impressed the students, political critics and his fans, who were eagerly waiting for the moment. His efforts to make Gujarat as the developed state in the country could be a case study for the Commerce students.

Talking on the Gujarat model of development, Modi attracted students’ attentions when he referred Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Ballav Bhai Patel, many industrialists and saints, who are from Gujarat, to work for the development of nation.

Modi encouraged youths to come forward and utilise their skills for the development of the nation. He said that India’s image abroad has been changed by the hard working youngsters not by any political leader. He said that India’s youth can rule the world. Since the 21st century is a century of knowledge, he believes, it can be India’s century.

Modi became the speaker of the day at the college and dumped his political critics, who saw his visit to the national capital and particularly to the college is a part of his efforts towards building a pan-India appeal ahead of 2014 general elections.

Modi’s focus on 3s (skill, scale and speed) could be perceived as very good idea to develop the nation. He said, “If we want to compete with China and other developed countries, we have to develop our skill, increase our scale and speed in three sectors such as agriculture, industry and service”.

“The entire world is looking at Gujarat model of governance. It is because of good governance. But Good governance for me is P2G2, Pro People Good Governance”, he said.

He said that making Gujarat as the developed state was not an easy task for him when the state was known for less production in agriculture and everything. It was the state of desert, which is situated near Pakistan. Gujarat used to be a water deficient state. But its agricultural growth has been more than 10 per cent in the last decade. He brought changes by deliberate efforts on these three sectors (agriculture, industry and service) and they should complement each other.

He said that India won its freedom after a long struggle, but the Swaraj can be justified if we will focus on good governance. “Minimum government and maximum governance is my creed, he said while addressing the students today.

He said that Gujarat can be called as the developed state from all the angles. The state focused on textile industry, production of cotton and its transportation. The state focused on animal husbandry. “Delhi gets milk, which comes from Gujarat, Lady’s finger (Bhindi) is available in Singapore and that is also imported from Gujarat. If you see tomatoes in Afghanistan and milk in Singapore, they are from Gujarat. A regular medical camp is being set up for cattle to check their health. Milk and dairy products increased 80% in past 6 years”, he said. Modi further revealed that all rail coaches used in Delhi Metro come from Gujarat.

On tourism, Gujarat has its unique place. Now Gujarat has become a hot tourist destination. Modi said that Gujarat is the first in the world to have forensic science university. “I have laid a lot of emphasis on improving educational standards in Gujarat. The state is recruiting quality manpower. In 2000 we had 11 universities, now we have 42 universities in the state. India needs good teachers and Gujarat has set up a university to train teachers”, he added. Talking on the education, he said that now Gujarat can supply good teachers to all the states. He stressed on the Technology upgradation, which is must if India wants to develop.

Talking on manufacturing industry, Modi said that India must develop quality product and services. “Let us make ‘Made in India’ a global brand” he said while recalling his past days when people were buying “made in Japan” products. He said the students, “If you will study the development of South Korea, you will get a fair idea how it showed its power to the entire world when it hosted Olympic Games.

While talking on the development of South Korea, he commented UPA government indirectly over its failure in organising the Commonwealth Games in India. He said that India lacks good governance and the bad governance is the root of all problems. More than 60 years have passed since India became independent, but we have not been able to develop as much as we should have. He said that India can develop with this constitution, laws, and existing schemes as he has proved it in Gujarat.
