PIOs get Life-time VISA to India

All All Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card holders will now get the life-time VISA to India. An official release issued in New Delhi said, this effectively fulfills the Prime Minister’s announcement that PIO cardholders will enjoy a lifetime VISA to India.

On the 30th of last month, the Home Ministry had notified that PIO Card will be valid for life-time from the date of its issue. Earlier, people of Indian Origin had cards with only 15 years validity for visa-free entry to India and they had to extend it for 10 years at a time.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a number of announcements on consular and visa issues during his address at the Madison Square Garden in New York City during his recent visit to the United States.

“Am sure these efforts will further strengthen our bond with the diaspora & give an impetus to our development journey,” Modi wrote in Twitter.

The next Pravasi Diwas will be held in Ahmedabad on January 8-9, 2015, which will coincide with the 100 years of Mahatma Gandhi’s return to India from South Africa.
