TNI Bureau: Rahul Gandhi, newly-elected Vice President of the Congress Party, has become the talk of the nation with his “visionary”, yet “emotional” speech, in which he revealed that her mother (Sonia Gandhi) cried last night after his coronation, as power was akin to poison.

Rahul, in a desperate bid to galavanise the Congress workers and divert the attention of people from the issues of corruption, inflation and misgovernance, has promised a better future and admitted that the government has a lot to do.

Rahul did not try to defend the party or the government, while admitting the failure on many fronts. At the same time, he listed the achievements of the government and hailed Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for giving the “right direction” to the nation.

“I accept the responsibility with great pride. I will give equal importance to youth, women and elders. The Congress will work for all Indians. We will produce 40-50 leaders who will be capable of leading the nation. We will lead the way. We will show what the Congress is capable of. We will fight all challenges together. In Congress, we have the DNA of Hindustan,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi underlined the benefits of schemes like MGNREGA, Food Security Bill, Right to Education, Direct cash transfer scheme etc. He further promised that Congress would ensure that 99 paisa of Rs 1 reach the common people. He also urged the common people (aam aadmi) to take part in politics.

He took a dig at the Opposition BJP saying, “People who are corrupt talk about eradicating corruption, people who disgrace women in daily life talk about women development”.

Rahul evoked emotions by recalling former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. Rahul revealed how he lost the balance in life when the same policemen who taught him playing Badminton, killed his grandmother (Indira Gandhi). He also recalled how his father (Rajiv Gandhi) cried after witnessing the plight of people in a hospital in Bengal.

After the speech, Rahul hugged his mother (Sonia Gandhi) and later Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. All other leaders and cadres congratulated him and wished him best for the future.
