TNI Bureau: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s dazzling career may end abruptly as he may be sent to a 10 year imprisonment in the hit-and-run case of 2002.

Yesterday a Magistrate’s court in Mumbai accepted the plea of the Maharashtra government that he should be tried under section 304 (II) of Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) instead of 304 (I) (rash and negligent driving).

Accordingly now Sallu will be tried for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the case.

While section 304 (I), of the IPC offers the accused a maximum punishment term of two years (if the guilt is proved), Section 304 (II) attracts the maximum sentence of ten years. Thus, if the actor is found guilty under this section then he might face a jail term of 10 years.

Dipesh Mehta, Salman’s advocate said that the actor would have to appear before the Sessions Court on 11 February 2013.

Salman was allegedly driving his Toyota Land Cruiser and crashed into a bakery in
suburban Bandra, killing one and injuring four others who were sleeping on the pavement on September 28, 2002. The trial before the Bandra Magistrate’s court started in 2006.
