Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on National Security and Foreign Affairs, had written a letter to the UN, seeking intervention to resolve the border tension between India and Pakistan.

Pakistan tried to convince the UN, saying the organisation has an important role to play in promoting the objective of peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue. The UN Secretary General expressed concerns over the escalation of violence on the LoC between India and Pakistan and deplored the loss of lives and displacement of civilians on both sides, but declined to intervene and asked both countries to find ways to resolve the crisis.
