Varun Gandhi had to spend 19 days in jail for allegedly inciting communal passion through his speech. Since the news channels failed to furnish the original, unedited footage to the police, nothing could be proved against Varun Gandhi. Mr. Gandhi had refused to submit his voice sample to the police.

The first speech was given in Dalchand Colony in Pilibhit, while the second speech was given in Barkheda.
