TNI Bureau: The Supreme Court allowed Zakia Jafri, wife of slain Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, to file a petition against the closure report of the Special Investigating Team (SIT), which investigated Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s role in the 2002 the Gulbarg Society riots case.

The apex court set aside an order of the magistrate court order which disallowed Ms Jafri to file the protest petition against SIT report. The court also directed the SIT to give the copies of report.

Zakia Jafri had approached the apex court challenging the magistrate’s order. She also wanted to go through the copies of reports submitted by the SIT to the Supreme Court.

While the Gujarat government opposed Zakia Jafri’s decision to move the Supreme Court, she was allowed to file the protest petition within eight weeks of receiving the SIT report.

The SIT, which was set up by the apex court to look into Jafri’s case and other cases relating to 2002 post-Godhra violence, has given a clean chit to Modi saying no evidence was found against him and 61 other accused in the case.

Zakia alleged that her husband Eshan Jafri was burnt alive in the 2002 Gujarat riots. She blamed 63 people, including Modi for not taking any action against the accused.
