9 Killed in Assam Violence, Army Deployed

TNI Bureau: At least 9 people were killed and several others were injured in the violence that erupted during the third phase of panchayat polls in Assam’s Goalpara district on Tuesday. The army has been deployed to maintain law and order in the area.

Police opened fire at people in several places in Dhanubhanga Patharmari and Dudhnoi Chiluk, Kashadol, Krishnai areas after thousands of protesters came out with sharp weapons and blocked the roads. The protesters attacked the security forces, voters and polling officials opposing the panchayat polls today.

Many security personnel have been injured in the clash. The injured people have been rushed to Goalpara civil hospital.
