Centre to decide on Khandadhar Mining Licence to Posco

Now Centre will decide whether the South Korean Steel maker Posco will get iron ore in Odisha, as the Supreme Court on Friday quashed the judgement of Orissa High Court that had set aside the state government’s petition to allot iron ore licence to Posco in Khandadhar hills.

The apex court asked the Centre to consider all objections raised by various parties against allotment of Khandadhar iron ore licence to the the company.

Earlier, the division bench of Orissa High Court in July 2010 had rejected the state government’s recommendation for granting licence to Posco. Challenging the verdict, the government and Posco had approached the apex court in October 2010.

The South Korean firm has been struggling to set up the unit in Khandadhar hills area for the past seven years as the locals protested the land acquisition. The mines is spread over 2,500 acres area.
