Congress hunts for Allies ahead of 2014 Polls

TNI Bureau: The Congress Party has finally admitted that it’s in a precarious condition across the country and has to work hard to restore the trust among the people. As the party knows it could slump to the second spot, while conceding the top spot to the BJP, it has now started looking for new allies.

The Congress has formed a group, which has many sub-committees. Those committees will explore all possibilities to look for more allies so that the Congress returns to power in 2014 with their help.

The Congress is all set to play the “communal” card to corner the BJP in the wake of reports that Gujarat CM Narendra Modi may lead the BJP’s poll campaign in 2014. The JD(U) has already asked the BJP to declare its Prime Ministerial candidate and made it clear that it would thwart any attempt to make Modi NDA’s PM candidate.

While Congress sees JD(U) as a potential ally, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav looks disturbed. He sought to extend his support to Rahul Gandhi and the Congress and even said that the 2014 general elections would be between the “communal” and “secular” compartments.

The Congress Party also looks to BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik as a potential ally in Odisha even though it remains the bitter rival of that party in the state. Congress also may try to rope in TRS, TDP and AIADMK so that BJP runs short of allies. As the party has gone on an offensive now, it would be interesting to see what strategy the BJP is going to adopt.
