TNI Bureau: The male friend of the 23-year-old Delhi Gangrape victim, who witnessed the brutality on the night of December 16, has finally broken his silence and went live on an exclusive programme on Zee News last night. He recounted the horror and accused the police for the delay caused in taking the victim to the hospital.

The youth was identified as Avaindra Pratap Pandey (28), a Software Engineer. He revealed that three PCR vans reached the spot where he and the victim were dumped. But they wasted around 45 minutes in fighting over jurisdiction. “We reached the hospital two and half hours later. We were not even offered a blanket in the chilling cold. My friend got the best possible treatment and support only after media took up the issue,” he said.

The rape and brutality continued for around 2 and half hours inside the moving bus on the roads of Delhi, he said. He further revealed that the assailants not only brutally raped her and tortured her, but also wanted to run them over in order to destroy the evidence. Avaindra claimed that he saved the girl by pulling her away in nick of time. He regretted that none of passerby came to their rescue even as they cried for help after being dumped on the road in a bad condition.

He disclosed that the victim in her testimony to the woman magistrate, wanted all accused to be burnt alive as punishment. The victim later died at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.

“I had to stay and sleep at the Vasant Vihar Police Station for four days on a stretcher. They did not even bother to give me proper medical help even though I had a fracture in the leg,” he alleged.

The Delhi Police denied the allegations and said that they got the PCR call at 10:21 PM and first PCR reached the spot at 10:27 PM. Another PCR van reached the spot at 10:29 PM. The victim was taken at 10:39 PM. She reached the hospital at 10:55 PM. They have registered a case against Zee News for airing the interview without their permission and revealing the identity of the victim.
