The single-stage, liquid-propelled, 9-meter long and 1 meter diameter missile is equipped with an advanced inertial navigation, control and guidance system, and can carry a payload of 500-1,000 kg to a distance of 350 km.

Prithvi-II, first indigenously developed strategic missile by the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), has already been inducted into the armed forces.

The DRDO has developed three Prithvi variants: Prithvi-I for the Army; Prithvi-II for the Indian Air Force; and the Dhanush for the Navy. All the three have already been inducted into service.
