TNI Bureau: President Pranab Mukherjee’s son and Congress’s sitting MP from Jangipur Abhijit Mukherjee embarrassed his father for making a sexist remark when the nation is outraged and protesting against crime against women. He said that pretty ladies coming out to protest are dented and painted. The remarks created a political storm.

He said that it’s fashionable to attend protest march now, while was speaking at an event in West Bengal. Abhijit Mukherjee made a comment against anti-rape women protesters, who have been demanding justice for 23-year-old para-medical student. He said that the protesters are not in touch with ground realities. In the tune of Congress and party leaders, he also questioned the protests in Delhi.

“What’s basically happening in Delhi is a lot like Egypt or elsewhere, where there’s something called the spring revolution, which has very little connection with ground realities. In India, staging candle-lit marches, going to discotheques – we did all this during our student life too, we were students too – I know every well what kind of character students should have. Those who claim to be students – I can see many beautiful women among them – highly dented-painted, they’re giving interviews on TV, they’ve brought their children to show them the scenes. I have grave doubts whether they’re students, because women of that age are generally not students,” Abhijit Mukherjee said.

Reacting to the statements, Pranab’s daughter Sarmishta apologised for her brother’s such type of remarks against anti-rape protests and will take it up with Abhijit. She justified the public outrage, even said that her father was shocked to know it. She said that men need to respect women whether the protesters were students or belong to any groups.
