The Supreme Court has issued a notice today to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking its response on the bail plea of YSR Congress leader Jagan Mohan Reddy, who has been in jail for nearly a year, in relating to a disproportionate assets case.

A bench headed by Justice P Sathasivam asked the agency to file its response in the court by May 6.

Kadapa MP was arrested on May 27, 2012 by the CBI on corruption charges. At present, he is under judicial custody and has been lodged at the Chanchalguda Central Prison in Hyderabad.

The CBI says that when his father, YSR Reddy, was Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Jagan Mohan had pressurized  companies to invest in his  business  and in return  influenced his father to allocate licenses and other clearances for them.

Forty-year old Jagan Mohan, however, claims that the CBI investigation against him is politically motivated for his decision to quit the Congress in 2011 to launch his own political party, the ‘YSR Congress’ after the demise of his father.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Railways, Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy, on Sunday created a controversy when he said Jagan Mohan will remain in jail till the CBI completes probe but may be spared if he rejoins the Congress.

Jagan Mohan had declared his assets worth Rs. 365 crores in 2011.
