Acharya Vihar Murder: Octogenarian Kunjabihari Dies

TNI Bureau: The 81-year-old Kunjabihari Panigrahi, who was grievously injured and had gone into a coma in the sensational Acharya Vihar murder case in Bhubaneswar, breathed his last at the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) yesterday after a three-month-long fight for survival.

On September 13, 2012, four youths had barged into his house to commit robbery. They strangulated Jyotsnadebi Panigrahy (75) to death with a cable wire and hit Kunjabihari repeatedly with a small LPG cylinder, causing him bleed profusely.

Kunjabihari was first admitted to Ayush Hospital, but later shifted KIMS. At least Rs 24 lakh were spent on his treatment in the last three months. The doctors tried their best, but in vain. Kunjabihari is survived with seven children – three sons and four daughters. They are well settled in Canada, Ukarine, Dubai and Bhubaneswar.

The Commissionerate Police cracked the case with the arrest of four youths – Vijay Yadav (BBA Student), Ranjit Jena (MBA Student), Priyaranjan Pati (MBA Student) and Butu Jena (Betel Shop Owner).
