Anganwadi Wall collapses in Nayagarh, 7 Kids die

TNI Bureau: Seven children died when the Anganwadi centre wall collapsed in Ranpur town of Odisha’s Nayagarh district. Several kids suffered injuries. They were admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and Sum Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when the kids were having their midday meals in their classroom at around 10:45 am in the Nelia Upper Primary School campus at Suansia Sahi village. While, four kids died on the spot, a child died on the way to Capital hospital, another died in Sum Hospital and another died in SCB medical college.

All the kids were under the age group of three to six. The victims’ parents held the district administration responsible for allowing the anganwadi centre to operate from the building, which was six decades old.

The incident triggered tension and protest in the area. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs one lakh each to the families of the deceased and free medical treatment for the injured.
