Bhubaneswar: In a huge relief to the state government, ARSS Chairman Subash Agarwal was rescued from the abductors in Visakhapatnam. It was a big achievement for the Commissionerate Police, as Mr. Agarwal became a free man less than 12 hours after his kidnapping.

Business rivalry was attributed to the abduction, which was masterminded by Andhra Pradesh-based real estate owner Srinivas Rao, owner of SHGV Constructions. He is still absconding. Seven people involved in the kidnapping, were taken into custody by the Commissionerate Police and Visakhapatnam Police.

The 47-year-old Subash Agarwal was kidnapped between 11 PM and midnight on Friday, while he was on his way from ARSS guest house in Khandagiri to his house in Nayapalli residence. Mr. Agarwal, his cousin Shankar and the driver were taken away at gun point by nine people who came in three cars.

The driver was rescued by the police at a police checkpoint in Khallikote at around 2 AM after the family members alerted the police about Agarwal’s missing. Three people were arrested, which ultimately led to the release of Mr. Agarwal and his cousin at Anandpuram near Vizag.

While a broken deal between ARSS and SHGV Constructions was said to be the reason behind the abduction, Mr. Agarwal has claimed that the abductors had demanded Rs 1 crore for his return. The police are probing the matter.
