Over 50 BSNL customers at Metro Satellite City near Hanspal in Bhubaneswar are having a tough time since Sunday (September 22, 2013) due to a cable cut inside their promises. Despite relentless phone calls and visits, the authorities have turned a blind eye to the customers’ problems, saying they don’t have cable wires in stock to repair the fault.
BSNL SDO Mr. Panigrahi, who has been very uncooperative, if we believe the customers, has expressed his helplessness, saying he is still awaiting for the stock to arrive. The Metro Satellite City residents, who include senior Bureaucrats, Doctors, Engineers, Businessmen, Professors, Senior Citizens and Media Professionals are facing a lot of hassles due to this.

“Our telephone lines and Internet connections have been dead since Sunday. Neither the SDO nor the JE has showed any interest to get things done on a war footing. When we lodged a complaint through the BSNL customer care, they closed the complaint after 48 hours without bothering about resolving the issue. The BSNL does not show any leniency while charging us and demanding the payment on time. But, when it comes to servie, they are the worst,” says Mr. Narayan Chhetty, a retired officer, who lives in Metro Satellite City.
“Since our Metro Satellite City comes under the Naharakanta division, which is on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, mobile network is very poor here. So, we always rely on BSNL service. But, their service has been worst in the recent months. Whenever there is rain, we witness the disruption of services. Now, they don’t even bother to fix the cable cut for over 4 days or so. Enough is enough. We are planning to go to consumer court to get justice,” said Dillip Joshi, a resident of Metro Satellite City.
When The News Insight contacted the SDO, he said it would take another three to four days to restore the service, as he does not have the stock of cables. An insider in the BSNL Head Office, revealed that some infighting at the higher level, has forced the officials not to order fresh cables, which has resulted in a crisis situation elsewhere in the capital city.
