The government intensified its fogging operations across the state after dengue cases increased in seven districts after the Millennium City Cuttack. It’s high time the local administration as well the citizens should adopt adequate preventive measures to control the spread of the disease. Public awareness is necessary to deal with the situation as the mosquitoes breed in stagnant fresh water.
According to data by national vector borne disease control programme (NVDCP) office, the dengue cases rose to 79 in the state, including two outside state patients. Besides Cuttack, cases have been detected in Angul (5), Dhenkanal (7), Ganjam (6), Jajpur (3), Khurda (7), Mayurbhanj (1).
The dengue scare looms over twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar during this monsoon season after 20 people were tested positive at SCB medical and hospital. After Rausapatna, and Haripur area of the city, most of the dengue positive cases were reported from Nima Sahi, Pithapur, Rajabagicha, Mangalabag and Purighat areas.
A special dengue ward is already operational at SCB Medical College and Hospital. The authorities have set up a 50-ward bed at the Causality and Trauma Care Centre to treat the patients affected by dengue.
Though, the civic body in Cuttack claimed to have intensified anti-mosquito operations, public held the local administration responsible for spread of the disease. Many claimed that fogging machines developed technical snag during the operations. Around 66 were tested positive so far in Cuttack and three suspected dengue patients were undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital.
While the hospital authorities looked confident to tackle the situation, they urged public to be aware of the disease and use mosquito nets to be safe. In the state capital, the intense fogging operations are on near Palasuni, the areas near Governor’s House, Kedarpalli, and Pathar Bandh Basti.
The civic officials were targeting the areas where the density of mosquitoes is high due to the presence of drainage channels and slum clusters. Six teams have been set up to monitor the cleanliness activities across the city.
