Naveen condemns Violence by Congress Workers

TNI Bureau: Reacting to the Congress action against policemen during the protest in the state capital yesterday, Odisha Chief Minister condemned the violence in which several policemen including women cops, protesters and journalists were injured.

Talking to the reporters outside the House on Friday, Naveen said that the violence on Thursday was shocking. Odisha is a peace loving state and such violence should be condemned, he added.

The protest that turned violent after the congress workers pelted stones at police and tried to break the police barricade, many police personnel were critically injured. One woman police was the victim of the violence when she tried to disperse the crowd. She was badly beaten up by the Congress workers. Even when she lied on the ground, many workers kicked her and attacked her with sticks with no mercy.

The assault on the woman cop was severely condemned by the Odisha Police Association. The victim has been admitted to the hospital.

Police Home Guard Association chief Padmanav Bhehera condemned assault by Congress workers in Bhubaneswar against the police force. The union threatened to protest if the attackers are not arrested within 48 hours.

Meanwhile, the Congress looked adamant over the issue and continued to blame the government for action against the party workers. The Assembly witnessed a huge uproar in the House as the Congress MLAs slammed the police action against their party workers at lower PMG on Thursday when they were protesting over coal blocks allocation.

The war of words rocked the House today leading to adjournment till 3 pm. The Congress has called a statewide bandh on September 10.
