Despite efforts by the government and various NGOs against female foeticide and child abandonment, the girl children are found neglected in Odisha. Recently, a new born baby girl was abandoned at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
The baby girl was deserted by her own parents at the gynecology ward of the hospital on Saturday. The district administration is taking care of the infant. She is now put on the Special New Born Care Unit (SNCU).

Prabhati Behera had delivered the baby girl last week. The baby was with her mother and father Banamali Behera till Friday. However, the hospital authorities found the baby abandoned as they did not find the baby’s parents on Saturday evening.
The police have been ordered to investigate the matter and trace the parents of the child.
