New Flyover to be constructed in Khandagiri

A day after the serious accident occurred at Khandagiri square killing three and injuring 20, the Commissionerate Police on Monday called a meeting to discuss with Khandagiri local committee and officials of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) about the issue and to create a permanent solution to make area the area accident prone free.

FlyoverDuring the discussion, the local committee members advocated for construction of a fly-over between Khandagiri Square and Kolathia Chhak in order to control heavy rush.

After the meeting, Twin City Police Commissioner Dr RP Sharma, quoting the locals demands, said the reporters here that building the fly-over may solve the traffic problems at the Khandagiri Square. “It is discussed that the flyover needs to be constructed. So we decided to write to the NHAI with strong recommendation to build the project,” Dr Sharma added.

He said that two high barricades would be installed near the twin-hill (Khandagiri-Udaygiri) road soon to check plying of heavy vehicles including the tourist buses towards Khandagiri traffic post.

Khandagiri-Police-MeetingApart from this service roads along the Aigenia and Khandagiri and towards Fire Station National Highway will be allowed to light vehicles only which are important to decongest the main road, besides an appeal will be made to all individuals including rash drivers to slow down their vehicles near the square, he said.

Participating the meeting, NHAI chief engineer (roads) Bharat Chandra Pradhan said the road from Khandagiri to Chandaka near twin hill would be banned for entry of heavy vehicles. As an alternative, heavy vehicles will use Kolathia-Tapoban road for transportation purpose. “As the road near the tourist spot (Khandagiri and Udaygiri) is a busy place, the local people demanded that the route should be banned for the heavy vehicles,” he added. Among others, NHAI project director Anil Dixit was present in the discussion.
