Nitish Kumar on Defensive over Patna Blasts

The serial blasts in Patna before Narendra Modi’s rally at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan, has taken the shine off Nitish Kumar’s good governance or ‘sushashan” plank. The Bihar CM is on a clear back foot, as he struggles to defend his government and administration, which miserably failed to rise to the occasion.

Nitish-Kumar-ModiOver 5-7 lakh people had gathered at Gandhi Maidan and other parts of Patna to hear Narendra Modi. Had there been a stampede aftermath the blasts, just imagine about the casualty. Thank god, nothing like happened and the casualties were limited to five. But, the Nitish Kumar government cannot heave a sigh of relief.

By announcing Rs 5 lakh to the families of each dead or arresting a few people, the government cannot pat its back. The damage is already done. The Bihar government did not learn any lessons from Bodhgaya blasts, which resulted in today’s tragedy, which shocked the entire nation.

By ignoring the alerts and failing to arrange full-proof security for such a massive rally to be addressed by BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Nitish government was completely exposed before the nation. He is now blaming the Centre for not giving any intelligence inputs on the blasts, but forgot that it was the responsibility of his government to protect the innocent citizens irrespective of their party affiliation.

The death of five people and injury to 70-odd people in the serial blasts, have raised serious questions on the law and order situation in Bihar. Why there is a surge in such tension after the departure of BJP from the government? Is Nitish incapable of delivering good governance without the saffron party? The situatio is very volatile in Bihar, which needs urgent attention. Nitish must forget ‘vote bank politics’ and prove his mettle as a great leader, as he carries the aspiration of crores of Biharis.
