Ashes 2013: England beat Australia in a Thriller

England sealed a dramatic victory in the first Test match against Australia at the Trent Bridge, Nottingham to take a 1-0 lead in the Ashes Series 2013. Interestingly, the DRS became a clear winner, as it delivered the final verdict in this Test match to set the tone for a fierce Ashes 2013.

James-AndersonChasing a victory target of 311, Australia had finished at 174/6 on Day 4. They resumed from that score today and continued with their fight. However, England bowlers bounced back and left them tottering at 231/9 at one stage. Anderson played a key role in Australia’s fall.

However, Brad Haddin (71) and James Pattinson (25*) added 65 runs for the last wicket. They looked strong and almost won the match for the Kangaroos. But, James Anderson yet again struck hard to remove Haddin and England won the match by 14 runs. Australia bowled out for 296. The original decision against Haddin was not out. But, the Hot Spot of DRS found a faint nick and ruled him out. Anderson took five wickets in the second innings and finished with a 10-wicket haul in the match – his 15th in Tests.
