Chris Gayle slammed the fastest ton ever seen in the history of world cricket and created many more records in IPL6. Playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Jamaican played just 30 deliveries to reach the three-figure mark and eventually remained unbeaten on 175 with 17 sixes and 13 boundaries  to post massive 263 against Pune Warriors India.

Gyale’s storm inflicted on the Warriors bowlers broke a series of records. Gyale smashed the fastest century in the format, brought off 30 balls; made the highest individual T20 score (175 not out); struck the most sixes by a batsman in a T20 innings (17); and helped Royal Challengers Bangalore to score the highest total in T20 cricket (263).

Gayle’s innings was ably supported by opener Tillakaratne Dilshan and AB de Villiers. While Dilshan scored 33 and shared a 167-run opening stand, an IPL record, AB thrashed 31 in just eight balls in a stand worth 44.

However, chasing the Himalayan target, the Warriors managed to score 133 only by losing 9 wickets in the stipulated overs. The visitors were off to a bad start after Robin Uthappa was caught at third-man in the first over itself.

Captain Aaron Finch, Pune’s best batsman in the tournament so far, also was helpless. Luke Wright and Yuvraj Singh went for their shots and perished in quick succession.Though Steven Smith and Mitchell Marsh tried to restore some pride for the Warriors, the damage was already done before the strategic time out.

At the end, Virat Kohli tossed the ball to Gayle for the last over, with the match done and dusted with. The Jamaican was back for Round 2 as he scalped Ali Murtaza and Ishwar Pandey, and broke into the Gangam jig.
