TNI Bureau: Shooter Gagan Narang finally ended India’s medal drought at the 2012 London Olympics by bagging a bronze in the 10m air rifle event. Abhinav Bindra disappointed here. He could not even qualify for the finals.

Shooting: Gagan Narang won the bronze medal in 10m air rifle event with 701.1 points. Akin George Moldoveanu (Romania) won the gold medal with 702.1 points, while Niccolo Campriani (Italy) won the silver with 701.5 points.

Archery: Laishram Bombayla Devi lost in the pre-quarterfinals of the women’s individual recurve event. She lost 2-6 to Mexico’s Roman Aida. Bombayla had won her first round encounter against Evangelia Psarra of Greece 6-4.

Boxing: Boxer Sumit Sangwan was denied a victory by the judges. Despite fighting aggressively and dominating the bout, he lost to Yamaguchi Falcao Florentino of Brazil 14-15.

Hockey: Netherlands beat India 3-2 in the men’s Hockey. For Netherlands, Van Der Horst, Weusthof and Van Der Weerden were the scorers. For India, Dharamveer Singh and Shivendra Singh scored the goals.

Lawn Tennis: Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna Max Mirnyi and Alexander Bury of Belarus 7-6 (4) 6-7 (4) 8-6 in a tough battle to move to the second round of the men’s doubles. Leander Paes and Vishnu Vardhan defeated Robin Haase and Jean-Julien Rojer 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-2. Vishnu lost his singles match against world number 77 Blaz Kavcic 3-6, 2-6.
