India lose to Germany, but top the Group

TNI Bureau: Despite a solid fight, India went down to Olympics Champions Germany 2-3 in the Champions Trophy in Melbourne. Even though India lost the match, they are still at the top of Pool A on the basis of goal difference. Both India and Germany finished at six points each.

India had beaten England and New Zealand in the previous matches. England finished third in the group, while New Zealand had to content with the bottom-place finish.

In today’s match, India scored the first goal in the sixth minute through Gurwinder Singh Chandi. Germany scored the equaliser in the 14th minute when Oliver Korn scored the goal. India took the lead again in the 46th minute through Nitin Thimmian.

However, Germany fought back with two quick goals from Tobias Matania and won the match by a 3-2 margin.
