India win Chennai Test, lead Series 1-0

India cleared the first hurdle in the revenge series with a 8-wicket victory over Australia in Chennai Test. With this win, India now lead the series 1-0 with three more test matches to go.

Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja ended Nathan Lyon’s stubborn resistance this morning. He made 11 off 77 balls and added 66 runs with Moises Henriques for the last wicket. Henriques, who had scored 68 in the first innings, remained unbeaten on 81 in the second. It was a highly impressive performance on Test debut. For India, Ashwin took 5 wickets, while Jadeja took three. Harbhajan took two wickets.

Chasing a victory target of 50, India lost Vijay early. Pattinson took the wicket and denied India a 10-wicket victory. Sewhag too did not last long. He was out for 19.  Lyon took the wicket. However, Tendulkar did not want to spend more time in the middle and hit Lyon for two consecutive sixes of the first two balls he faced.

India reached 50/2 in 11.3 overs and won the match by 8 wickets. MS Dhoni was declared ‘Man of the Match’ for his marathon knock of 224. Ashwin took 12 wickets in the match.
