International Women’s Chess Tourney to be held in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: India Cup International Women’s Chess tournament match is scheduled to be held in Odisha, which successfully organised ICC women’s world cup involving Pakistani team. For the first time, the state will hold the prestigious match that starts from March 17-27 at Banquet Hall in KIIT premises, Bhubaneswar.

Since the Chess season starts in March, the game lovers can get opportunity to watch the tournament, which will be telecast on DD Sports. For the first time, two women grand masters Padmini Rout and Kiran Manisha Mohanty from Odisha have been selected for playing the game in international level.

The game will be held with 12 participants, including 10 international women players from six countries. The match consists of 10 rounds in 10 days.

The organiser will spend Rs 13 lakh for the international tournament. While OMC and KIIT will sponsor the game paying Rs 2 lakh each, rest of the money will be arranged by All Odisha Chess Association (OACA). KIIT will take care of the participants, 6 trainers, 4 arbiters and other officials’ accommodation and fooding
