Vikas Gowda brought glory to the nation, as he won India’s first gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championship. Gowda won the yellow metal in Men’s Discus. India’s MR Poovamma won a silver in Women’s 400m, while Ratiram Saini got a bronze in the Men’s 10,000m race.
Gowda was at the second spot behind Mohammad Samimi of Iran till the third attempt. However, he changed his shoes during the fourth attempt and cleared 64.90m to secure the gold. Gowda’s personal best remains at 66.28m.
Iran’s Samimi bagged the silver medal with 61.93m. Mohammad Ahmed of Qatar won the bronze with a throw of 60.28m.
