About 22 million user IDs may have been stolen during an unauthorized attempt to access the administrative system of its Yahoo! Japan portal – suspects Yahoo Japan Corporation. They are not confirmed but doubt it seeing the volume of traffic between their server and external terminals.
However, the company has already updated its security measures to check any recurrence of such incident and to check any further peril that may be initiated from any external factors using the supposedly stolen data.
‘Yahoo! Japan’ is the highest used search engine in Japan while Google holds the second position with around 40 per cent.
35.5 per cent of Yahoo Japan is held by Japan’s mobile phone operator Softbank while 34.7 per cent is held by US Internet giant Yahoo! Inc.
Japan acknowledges that its preventative measures against cyber attacks is underdeveloped, for which its national police agency have announced to launch a team to analyze and combat cyber attacks.
