Telegram dies at 160

From July 15, 2013, Telegram won’t be available in India. While all other countries have already stopped Telegram long ago, it was still working in India. The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has decided to discontinue the telegraph service due to lack of government support.

TelegramThe telegraph was first launched in India in 1850 between Calcutta and Diamond Harbour. Later, it expanded to other areas of the country. With the advent of new-age technologies such as mobile, email, instant messaging and social media, the importance of telegram has done down drastically in the recent years.

The BSNL also failed to get any patronage for the service, which was considered high as compared to modern technologies. There is no doubt that Telegram will remain in the heart and mind of millions of people, who used to rely on it heavily till the 1990s.
