Internet giant Google has taken another big step forward to feature its YouTube video section on the DTH cable screens. Google India is in talks with many direct-to-home cable providers to make its dream a reality in the coming months.
Google’s Global Director of Platform Partnerships, Francisco Varela, who is on his first visit to India, has made these revelations. YouTube holds key to Google’s revenues, which has surpassed $50 billion in 2012.
An estimated 100 hours of video are being uploaded to YouTube every minute. Also, 6 billion hours of video are watched each month on the leading video site. YouTube receives more than 55 million unique monthly users from India.
The major DTH service providers in India are Dish TV, Tata Sky, Airtel Digital TV, Videocon D2H, Reliance Digital TV and Sun Direct. It would be interesting to see which of them would express interest in featuring YouTube as a channel on their platform.
