Shooter kills 12, injures 8 at Washington Navy Yard

In a shocking development, a shooter has killed at least 12 people and injured 8 others at the Washington Navy Yard today. The incident occurred early in the morning (US time). Even flight operations were stopped for some time after the shooting incident was reported. Efforts are on to maintain calm in the area.

Around 3,000 people work at the Washington Navy Yard. Out of 12 deceased, 7 bodies have been identified so far. They are Michael Arnold (59), Sylvia Frasier (53), Kathy Gaarde (62), John Roger Johnson (73), Frank Kohler (50), Bernard Proctor (46) and Vishnu Pandit (61).

Gunman, Aaron Alexis (34), was also killed at the scene. He reportedly had a troubled past. Aaron had a secret clearance and owned a CAC (Common Access Card). He was working for The Exprts Inc., which was helping service the Navy Marine Corps Intranet as a subcontractor for HP Enterprise Services, part of Hewlett-Packard Co.

Contrary to the earlier reports, it was later confirmed that only one shooter was involved in the incident.
